Ninth arrest made in brutal Bayonne beating

(07/15/11) BAYONNE - Police say they've made a ninth arrest in connection to the brutal beating of a man in Bayonne. Authorities say they found the 15-year-old suspect, whose name is not being released due to his age, hiding at a relative's house in Newark.
Police say the boy was one of four juveniles who stomped and kicked 23-year-old David Strucinski as he lay on the ground in the July 3 assault.

Authorities say a parking space dispute triggered a deadly shooting that led to a standoff at an apartment complex in Ewing yesterday. According to residents, there are no assigned parking spaces at the apartment complex.
Officials believe 50-year-old Wayne Voorhees shot 24-year-old Timothy Rivella before holding police at bay for nearly eight hours from inside his apartment at Versailles Apartment Complex.
The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office says the standoff ended after state police stormed the unit and found Voorhees with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He remains in serious condition at Capital Health Systems Hospital at Fuld.
Voorhees has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He is being held on $1 million bail.

Some in Newark say they think the Brick City is starting to feel like a combat zone after 17 people were shot in the last five days, two of them fatally.
In comparison, the Department of Defense says that three people were killed this week in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The latest shooting was Friday evening at round 6:30 p.m. on Netherwood Place. On Thursday night, four people were shot, one fatally in a drive-by shooting in Newark's West Ward. Officials say Al-Tariq Harris, 21, was killed after being shot in the face while standing outside a convenience store on South 18th Street.
Two of the victims of that shooting are in stable condition at an area hospital, while one was treated and released, according to police.
On Monday, a total of 12 people were shot, including one fatally, in two separate shootings. The next day, Mayor Cory Booker chalked those shootings up to be a turf war between two rival gangs.
